Leta Wick made a few quilts recently using the Jelly Roll Race method. We have a couple of those quilt tops at the shop, but I hadn’t seen any quilted. She came in to purchase some fabric for a border and backing for her latest, and I asked her to bring it back for me to see when it was completed.

What a treat! It’s beautiful!! She was making this one for a friend that is battling cancer. Leta did the piecing and her husband did the longarm quilting. The friend wasn’t aware that they were doing this for her, and I am sure that made it even more of a delight to receive. Note the phrase “I love you first today” that was added to her quilt. They were words from Leta’s grandmother that she had heard from the time she was a child. My customers never cease to amaze me. Quilters are just special people.

Leta Wick is Sharon Wick’s mother-in-law, and Sharon works in the shop on Friday afternoons.

A gentle hug and reminder each time she cozies up with the quilt

Sue Gorman brought in some vintage quilts to have sleeves added for hanging. The crazy quilt was made from silk and velvet. The bedrunner has a backing similar to cotton duck. Both are handmade. I just HAD to share them with you! I suggested that she get the bedrunner appraised before we did anything with it. It turned out to be valued over $1,000 and was made around 1900!
